Suicide Prevention Awareness/ Community Postvention Response Plan Development

Dear Parents of Belmont and Canterbury

September is Suicide Awareness month and therefore, our Connect Suicide Prevention Peer Leaders are hosting a community training evening here at Belmont High School on September 27th. Dinner will be served from 5:30-6 and work session from 6-8pm. Our student leaders have been trained to facilitate prevention related activities and lessons and have been well practiced by presenting in our health classes here at BHS.

It is our hope that this event will bring awareness to all stakeholders in both our communities; police department, fire department, paramedics, mental health provider, clergy, school administration, counselors and staff, emergency room providers, parents and of course our youth. Additionally, our goal will be to develop a Community Postvention Response Plan for any sudden tragic event that would be in alignment with best practices as outlined by the National Alliance on Mental Illness.

We are personally inviting you because your role in our communities is extremely important and is one of the identified stakeholders listed above. Your feedback and participation is a crucial component of the development of this plan.

Please let us know if you are able to attend as soon as possible so that I can plan accordingly for food.

We look forward to hearing from you and working with you and developing a meaningful plan that will help serve the people of our communities.

Sincerely,

Jennifer Gagnon                               Laura Lavallee
