Boys Soccer Today

Good Afternoon Parents,

Unfortunately, sun and wind have not dried the JV field enough at this point for us to feel comfortable to play a game on the surface today. We are therefore going to move the Varsity game to a 3:30 start time and play the JV game after at 5 p.m on the lower field.

Thank you,

BHS Athletics- 10/8- 10/13

Good Morning Parents,

Please find the athletics schedule for next week attached to this email. Hopefully, this is the first and only version and the rain will leave us alone this week!

Please note that Tuesday's Varsity Girls soccer game is the last home game for our girls and their Senior Game. Please come out and show those girls some support for everything they have given to the program the past four years!

Also, don't forget, today we are hosting our one and only home Cross Country meet, girls race at 4 and the boys at 4:45!

And finally, remember that up-to-date scheduling information can always be found on our athletics website game calendar, or by visiting our website and clicking on any of the team pages under the fall tab.

Thank you and Go Red Raiders!

Boys Soccer Today (10/4)

Good Morning Parents,

There has been a slight change to the boy's soccer schedule today. The upper field has not dried off enough to play a game today so we will be adjusting the start of both games to allow for them to play back to back.

The Boys Varsity game will now start at 3:30 on the lower field. Boys JV will now play at 5:15 or immediately following the varsity game on the lower field. Due to the threat of darkness, the JV game will be played as two 30-minute halves, not full 40s.

BHS Athletics Changes

Good Afternoon Parents,

We have had a few changes to our athletics schedule today due to the rain. Both boys and girls soccer have been postponed today. Varsity Golf is still playing today, but they will tee off at 2:45, not 4:00 p.m. Golf students will be dismissed from school at 1:45 today to accommodate this change.

See below or check our game calendar on the athletics website for the most up-to-date version of all of our team game schedules. You can also get this information by clicking on each individual team page through the site's menu under "Fall."

Girls Soccer @ Berlin. Postponed to 10/4/18. Varsity 3:30, JV 5. This will be at Community Field in Berlin.

Boys Soccer @ Monadnock. Postponed to 10/8/18. Varsity Only. Bus leaves at 1:30.

I understand that the boys game falls on Columbus Day and I apologize for families that had plans. Unfortunately, there was no other date that worked for our two schools to get together due to scheduling conflicts with other games and field space.

Parent Survey

Dear Parents,

I would like to thank all of you who came out for our Open House last night.  The event was well attended and we appreciate all the support and feedback.  As part of our continued efforts to keep parents and families educated and informed about the exciting work going on at Belmont High School, we have attached a brief survey intended to gather information about topics related to our transition to competency-based education.

The results will be used to help shape our communication plan and provide topics of discussion for future parent forums and coffee nights.  Thank you in advance for taking the time to complete the survey.  Your feedback is extremely important to us.  If you have any questions please do not hesitate to reach out.

Have a great weekend,

Dave

You're doing a great job Paul.  Thanks for the communication!

I sincerely apologize for the shuffling of our games this close to the event. I know how special homecoming weekend is and that many of you coordinate having family members and friends come back to watch our athletes play, and the last thing that you need is for the schedule to change so much.

Please understand that these changes were made in an effort to accommodate several factors, the most important of which was an effort to space out the games so that our varsity teams had their own time-slot, which allows our students and community to watch each team play without having to choose between them. Our student-athletes also love supporting their classmates, so the changes also help allow them to experience as much of homecoming as possible. While I wish it were possible to also space the games out to allow for the JV athletes to not have to compete with the varsity schedule, it was not possible for this year. I promise I will look at this moving forward, as homecoming is a special experience for all of our athletes, freshmen-senior.

Again, I apologize for the late notice on this schedule change, and for the resulting confusion that has occurred today with these conflicting new schedules. Please know that this is the final change to be made and that the schedule attached to this email is accurate. I assure you that when the schedule for next year's homecoming is made this fall, all of these factors will be considered from the start to allow for time for families to plan and to make our homecoming the best possible homecoming experience for our athletes and community.

If you have any questions, concerns, or frustrations to voice over what has occurred with regards to homecoming, please send me an email, call, or schedule a time to come in and discuss them with me in person. I am always happy to listen to parents and members of this community when it comes to our athletic programs and would welcome that feedback to continue to improve our homecoming experience.

Boys Soccer today

Good Afternoon Parents,

Please note that our Boys Varsity Soccer game that is at InterLakes H.S. today will now start at 4:30 p.m., not 4 p.m. The JV game will be played immediately following the varsity.

I understand that this change may cause some problems and be inconvenient for people, particularly with the community event that is taking place tonight, however, the change is unavoidable due to a bus issue. Every effort was made to keep the game at 4 p.m. but it was just not possible. Thank you for understanding.

Open House Invitation

Dear Parents,

In an effort to improve communication we plan to begin using a webcast format to share some of the things that are happening at Belmont High School.

This first webcast is a simple invitation to our open house on Thursday, September 27th.  Future webcasts will focus on our transition to competency-based education and the many changes that BHS has undergone in preparation for our new report card and transcript which will be ready next school year.

We hope you appreciate the format and please let us known if there are particular topics that you would like to learn more about.

Thanks and have a great weekend!

BHS Updates and Open House

Dear Parents,

We are off to a great start to our school year!  I would like to thank you for your support with our new cell phone policy.  Students have been great about it and we have already seen a reduction of distractions at the classroom level.

Please be on the lookout for our new website and our weekly updates which will be up and running early next week.  Picture day is scheduled for Monday, September 10th.

Our Open House has been rescheduled to Thursday, September 27th at 6:00pm. We will begin the evening with a comprehensive overview of our competency-education model and share many of the great things happening at BHS.

We hope to see you all at open house.  As always, please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns.

Thanks,

Dave

Soccer Time Changes

Good Morning Parents,

Due to the high temperatures and heat index scores projected for this afternoon, we have some slight changes to our schedule for both our boys and girls soccer games today.

1. The Boys Varsity Soccer game that was scheduled to start at 4 p.m. at Somersworth is now scheduled for a 6 p.m. start. There is no JV contest.

2. The Girls Varsity Soccer game that was scheduled to start at 4 p.m. at Belmont is now scheduled for a 5 p.m. start. JV will follow the varsity and play a modified game. The length of the JV game will be determined after the varsity game ends.

We are also taking extra precautions to ensure that our athletes follow all recommended protocols for this type of weather. Per NHIAA guidelines, we will have a forced water break at the halfway point of each half during the varsity game, and will also ensure that shade is available for teams at halftime.

The school will also provide water for both teams and our trainer will be on hand for the game.

Please email or call if you have any questions about the above information. See you all at 5 and go BHS!

Transportation Policy part 2

Good Afternoon Parents,

I wanted to follow up with last night's email so that you were all aware of what the new procedure was for granting permission for a student-athlete to ride home in a mode of transportation other than the bus.

Please keep in mind that as a school district and athletic department we encourage all student-athletes to ride the bus home from away games. As I said last night, it is important for our teams to be together after wins or losses, and exceptions to our bus rule should really only be made for family events that were planned in advance or family emergencies.

If you would like to have your student-athlete ride home in your car or with another parent/guardian, please follow the steps below. These steps apply to both BHS student-athletes and BMS student-athletes.

  1. Download this form or have your student-athlete pick one up from the main office. No other form, note, message, or email will be accepted. Students must complete a new form for each event.
  2. Your student-athlete must then turn this form in at the main office or to the Athletic Director before they are dismissed for their away game. Coaches will then be provided with the names of students who have permission to opt-out of traveling on the bus. Coaches will not accept these forms after the game or on the bus to the game. It is the responsibility of your student-athlete to make sure it is turned in ahead of time and verified by the AD or main office.
  3. This form is only of use for you to bring your student-athlete home or for another parent/guardian to bring them home. Students can never leave an away game with another student.

Thank you for your patience with this new procedure.

Again, as it states in the handbook, the spirit of our transportation rule is that students are riding to and from games with their team, and only making exceptions when necessary.  Of course, there are always exceptions to every rule, but as a practice, we would still encourage parents to limit the times where those types of reasons are used. Instead, please encourage your student-athletes to do the best they can with pre-planning before a game that they know has a long bus ride so that they can get assignments done early or discuss the difficulty with a teacher. Doing this will only help in our mission to foster the development of important life skills through athletics.

Thank you, and go Belmont!

Transportation for BHS games

Good Evening Parents,

With our first games just around the corner (boys and girls soccer both start Friday!) I wanted to take a minute and send out a refresher on the transportation policy for student-athletes traveling to and from away games. This comes directly from our Student-Athletic Handbook.

Transportation Expectations:

Student-Athletes are required to ride in school transportation to and from contests. Students may travel home from an away athletic event in other than school transportation only with the written permission of a parent/guardian.

  1.  A note from parents must be given to the coach stating their consent for an alternative transportation arrangement.
  2.  Student-athletes will not, under any circumstances, travel with a parent or guardian other than their own, without written permission.
  3. Parents must sign Contest Travel Release Form at an athletic contest to take their own child.
  4. In accordance with the NHIAA and Shaker Regional School Policy EEBB, under no circumstances is any student to transport himself or herself to away athletic contests. If this occurs the athletic director is to be notified immediately.
There has understandably been some confusion about what constitutes a proper note declaring consent that will allow a student-athlete to ride home with another parent or guardian. Because of liability issues surrounding transporting our student-athletes to and from school-sponsored events, it is important for this process to be consistent across the board. To help with this, I am working on formalizing this process and will post a form to our athletics website as soon as it is finalized tomorrow. It will also be available in the main office for athletes to bring home for signature.

Please keep in mind that the spirit of this exception is really intended for family events that a student-athlete would be going to and not to get home faster or go to plans with friends. As our policy states in the first line, the expectation is that student-athletes will ride school transportation to and from events.

In addition to being good practice, this also helps to build and solidify team culture and chemistry. Teams are required to show up for a game together on the bus with no exceptions. We also should expect them to come home on the bus together to have that chance to celebrate a big win or deal with a loss together as a team.

As always, please reach out to me if you have any questions regarding this policy, or if you'd like to set up a time to discuss it further. Finally, thank you for all you do as parents to support the outstanding young men and women that participate in athletics here at BHS. We have an amazing community and I can't wait for you all to get a chance to watch out kids in action in the coming days and weeks.

Thank you, and go BHS!
