The Shaker Regional School Board has announced that Michael J. Tursi has accepted a 4-year contract as the Superintendent of Schools. Mr. Tursi was hired July, 2016 as the Interim Superintendent and was hired as the permanent Superintendent the following July.
Tursi holds a Bachelor's Degree in geology from Radford University in Virginia, a Master's of Education Degree from Plymouth State University, and his Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies from Plymouth State University.
On the District website Tursi has stated, "I continue to feel very fortunate to work in a great school district with good people who always put students first." Board chair, Robert Reed commented that the district is fortunate to have Mr. Tursi. "He is positive, enthusiastic and plays an active role in both our schools and our communities. We are thrilled that he has accepted this 4-year contract."
1. Winter Sports Parent Night:
There will be a mandatory meeting for all parents or guardians of a BHS student-athlete on Tuesday, November 27 from 6-7 p.m. in the BHS gym. At least one parent or guardian is expected to attend along with their student-athlete. The meeting will provide you with a chance to meet me, our new athletic trainer, and most importantly to hear about important policy guidelines and changes for the upcoming season.
Following the meeting with the AD, parents will break off to classrooms for a team meeting with their student-athlete's coach for the upcoming season. Coaches will use this time to go over team rules and expectations for the upcoming season and to answer more specific questions for their sport. Both myself and the coaches will do our best to keep these meetings brief, but they provide an important opportunity for all of us to get information directly to parents and players and also give you the opportunity to ask any questions you might have before the season gets rolling.
2. Sports Registration:
All information regarding sports registration can be found on our athletics website by clicking here. Please pay close attention to the registration section, as student-athletes will not be allowed to participate in practices or tryouts unless all four components are met.
3. Tryout/ First Practice Times:
All times listed are for both JV and Varsity players unless otherwise specified.
Boys Ice Hockey
Laconia Ice Arena
4. ImPACT Test times:
As a part of the registration process, athletes must take an ImPACT Test here at the high school to be eligible to try out for any team. ImPACT tests are good for 2 years, so unless your student-athlete is new to the district, they should be taking the test during their freshmen and junior years prior to the start of the season. Please refer to the table below for when your student-athlete can come to take the test at the high school. If you are not sure when your student-athlete last took the test, please reach out or have them come in and take it again.
Girls and Boys Basketball
Boy's Ice Hockey, Indoor Track
Alpine Skiing, make-up days for other sports
