PARENTS

Class of 2016 and Parents!  The BHS 2016 Yearbook staff has some information and deadlines to share with you:

Seniors Sections

Senior sections at BHS are unique because the seniors create them themselves. This process has begun and is ongoing until DECEMBER 18. After this date, there will be no other opportunity to create senior sections. This is the part of the senior section that includes notes to family and friends, photos with friends and family through the years, song lyrics, quotes, friend lists, etc. - whatever you want to include in them! (As long as they are school-appropriate.) They MUST use the design program we use to create the yearbook, which is why they have to be created in school with the assistance of a yearbook staff member during Power Hour or after school when specially arranged. Students should come to Room 106 with any photos they would like to use available to them (NOT on Facebook). This DOES NOT include the formal senior portrait.

Senior Portraits

The actual, formal portrait within the senior section has a separate deadline. These are due by JANUARY 11, 2016 and can be submitted electronically or via hard copy and scanned. Turn them in to Mrs. Hamilton (via email khamilton@sau80.org or in Rm 210).

Senior Recognition Ads

These are the ads parents may purchase to recognize the achievements of their seniors. I will send more specific information about these a bit later, but wanted you to know that you can order and create them online, if you choose to do so, at jostens.com. Senior Recognition Ads will be due by FEBRUARY 15, 2016

Yearbooks are currently on sale for $45 through November 20. Order online at jostens.com or by sending in cash or check made out to BHS and turning in to Mrs. Hamilton (Rm 210). Payment plans are available.  Feel free to contact me with questions. Thank you!

POLAR EXPRESS:  Please see the attached flyer to order your tickets now for the Polar Express Pajama Party for children and their families.  The special showing of the classic holiday film will be held in the Belmont High School Café on Friday, December 4 at 6:00 pm.  The event will also include cocoa and snacks, and other special surprises.  Children are encouraged to attend in their pajamas, socks and/or slippers.  This magical holiday event is sponsored by the BHS Earth, Ecological and Environmental Stewardship students as a fundraiser for their spring trip to Olympic National Park in Washington.  If you are not familiar with the Polar Express story, it is about a doubting boy who is waiting to hear the sound of reindeer bells from Santa's sleigh on Christmas Eve.  Instead, he hears the roar of a steam engine outside his window.  The conductor welcomes him aboard the train for an extraordinary journey to the North Pole.  There, he receives a gift only those who BELIEVE in Santa can experience.  Rated PG. Link to official movie trailers   http://movieweb.com/movie/the-polar-express/official-trailer-2/

Athletics

There will be open gym for Boys Basketball as follows:

Boys open gym – 11/17 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and 11/19 from 6:30-8:30 p.m.

CLUBS AND ORGANIZATIONS

Robotics:  Congratulations to the robotics team! We won the sportsmanship award this past Saturday at the Mount Washington Valley VRC Qualifier at Kennet High School.

Student Council:

Attention Block 5 Teachers!

Student council is putting on a nonperishable canned food drive competition that will be running until Friday November 20th. All food will be donated to a local food pantry for families in need this Holiday season. The class at the end of this competition who gathers the most amount of food will win a pizza party for their 5th block class. This class may also substitute the party and choose to donate the amount of money that would have been spent on pizza to the food pantry in the spirit of giving.

Also if you have a small class don't fret! To keep it fair we will take the points you earn and divide it by the number of students in your block 5 class. By doing this everyone should get a fair shake at winning!  Faculty are encouraged to donate as well.  If you don't have a 5th block class, please still promote the drive to your classes and get your students to participate.  We would like to make a BIG contribution to help people out this Thanksgiving.

Points break down per item:

Ramen Noodles (etc.) or any can/box below 10 oz = 1/2 point

10-15 oz non-perishable canned good = 1 point

15-20 oz non-perishable canned good = 2 points

20 oz + non-perishable canned good = 3 points

Class positioning will be posted on the Student council bulletin board near the Gym!
