Crisis Counseling Opportunity Reminder - 7/27/20

7/27/2020

Dear Belmont Middle and High School Families,

The Shaker Regional School District Crisis Support Team would like to remind our school community of today's in-person student counseling services, being held at Belmont Middle School. As was communicated last Friday, our team is offering in-person counseling services for students wishing to participate today (July 27, 2020) from 1 pm to 6 pm. Completing the attached survey expresses your interest in participating in this opportunity and provides information to our Crisis Response Team that allows us to meet participants' needs.

If you plan to join us for this afternoon's student counseling, please utilize this form: Counseling Participation Form

Our school counselors and school psychologists will practice social distancing and will be wearing masks throughout these sessions. In order to ensure all attendees are safe and have the support they need, student participants are required to wear a mask/face covering. We will observe Covid-19 rules and guidelines, per the CDC.

Students will enter through the middle school's cafeteria doors and exit through a different set of doors in the front of the building. Students will check in with a district representative prior to entering. Additional staff will be on hand to help with traffic. Parents/Guardians are asked to remain in their vehicles until their student exits the middle school.

For guidance focused on supporting young people through this time, we invite you to review this resource: Helping Children Cope After a Traumatic Event

Our thoughts are with each of you.

Thank you,

Your SRSD Crisis Response Team

Hello Parents, Guardians, Staff and Students,
We would like your feedback on a few items to assist in our planning for returning to school in the fall. We ask that you please take the time to fill out this survey.
Thank you.
Michael
SRSD - Return to School Survey - July 2020
As we plan for returning to schools in the fall, our preliminary options include full access (all students and staff return to school), partial access (a hybrid model of in-person and remote learning) and no access (continue with remote learning),

Description of the options:

Full Access - In-person learning with safety requirements. In this model, all students return in person to school settings that are appropriately modified to accommodate the health and safety requirements outlined by DHHS. Examples of modifications could include altered classroom configurations, setting up additional learning spaces, and schedule changes.

Partial Access (Hybrid Model) - In the event we are unable to bring all students back to school under the health and safety requirements despite our best efforts, or in case of COVID-19 related circumstances, students would alternate between in-person and remote learning. For instance, students could switch between in-person and remote learning on alternating weeks or days of the week.

No Access - Full remote teaching and learning for both staff and students.

Thank you in advance for taking the time to complete the survey.

Updates: Meals/Access to School Facilities/Reopening our schools in the fall

Hello Shaker Regional Families and Staff,

I hope all of you are doing well and enjoying these first few weeks of summer. Below are some updates for your review.

Meals:
I am pleased to inform you that we are able to continue our meal pick-up/delivery program through the summer months. The only change starting next week is that there is a reduced number of delivery locations. Here is a link with the updated locations click here. Pick-up and delivery will continue to be on Tuesdays only. You will receive five days worth of meals on that day.

Access to School Facilities:
Offices: SAU and school offices will be open to the public starting July 7th. Protocols are in place to ensure the health and safety of staff and visitors. Visitors are required to wear masks, maintain social distancing and use hand sanitizer stations. If you are not feeling well, we ask that you please refrain from visiting our offices. Calling to make an appointment is preferred.
Athletic Fields: Our athletic fields will be open to outside organizations and school sponsored programs starting July 7th. All outside organizations are required to fill out a facilities use request form and follow the governor's COVID-19 reopening guidance specific to the activity. Indoor facilities remain closed to all outside organizations.

Reopening our schools in the fall:
The state's School Transition Reopening and Redesign Task Force has established a list of ten recommendations for reopening schools in the fall. The list has been provided to the governor's office and the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) to assist in their development of a guidance document for school leaders to follow. The majority of planning and the development of protocols will rest on local school districts in the coming weeks. Our district has established district-wide and building level Return to School Committees and other working groups who will take the guidance document from the state and plan accordingly. Specific requirements such as social distancing and wearing of masks will be outlined by the governor's office and DHHS. These requirements will dictate the type of model we will be able to offer. The preliminary options include no access (continue with remote learning), partial access (a hybrid model of in-person and remote learning) and full access (all students and staff return to school).  I am hopeful that we will reopen with partial or full access with the understanding that we may need to move to remote learning if a health and/or safety concern presents itself.
I will send out a survey to all of you in the coming weeks to get your input on the various models for our planning purposes. My goal is to present a recommendation to our school board by the end of July or no later than August 11th. This continues to be a dynamic situation, one that requires flexibility in response to the current status of the virus in our state and local community. I will keep you informed as our plans unfold.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions or comments.
Thank you and enjoy the upcoming holiday weekend.
Michael
