Updates: Meals/Access to School Facilities/Reopening our schools in the fall

Hello Shaker Regional Families and Staff,

I hope all of you are doing well and enjoying these first few weeks of summer. Below are some updates for your review.

Meals:
I am pleased to inform you that we are able to continue our meal pick-up/delivery program through the summer months. The only change starting next week is that there is a reduced number of delivery locations. Here is a link with the updated locations click here. Pick-up and delivery will continue to be on Tuesdays only. You will receive five days worth of meals on that day.

Access to School Facilities:
Offices: SAU and school offices will be open to the public starting July 7th. Protocols are in place to ensure the health and safety of staff and visitors. Visitors are required to wear masks, maintain social distancing and use hand sanitizer stations. If you are not feeling well, we ask that you please refrain from visiting our offices. Calling to make an appointment is preferred.
Athletic Fields: Our athletic fields will be open to outside organizations and school sponsored programs starting July 7th. All outside organizations are required to fill out a facilities use request form and follow the governor's COVID-19 reopening guidance specific to the activity. Indoor facilities remain closed to all outside organizations.

Reopening our schools in the fall:
The state's School Transition Reopening and Redesign Task Force has established a list of ten recommendations for reopening schools in the fall. The list has been provided to the governor's office and the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) to assist in their development of a guidance document for school leaders to follow. The majority of planning and the development of protocols will rest on local school districts in the coming weeks. Our district has established district-wide and building level Return to School Committees and other working groups who will take the guidance document from the state and plan accordingly. Specific requirements such as social distancing and wearing of masks will be outlined by the governor's office and DHHS. These requirements will dictate the type of model we will be able to offer. The preliminary options include no access (continue with remote learning), partial access (a hybrid model of in-person and remote learning) and full access (all students and staff return to school).  I am hopeful that we will reopen with partial or full access with the understanding that we may need to move to remote learning if a health and/or safety concern presents itself.
I will send out a survey to all of you in the coming weeks to get your input on the various models for our planning purposes. My goal is to present a recommendation to our school board by the end of July or no later than August 11th. This continues to be a dynamic situation, one that requires flexibility in response to the current status of the virus in our state and local community. I will keep you informed as our plans unfold.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions or comments.
Thank you and enjoy the upcoming holiday weekend.
Michael
