Potential Bus Driver Work Stoppage

Dear Shaker Regional School District Families and Staff,

Please be advised that we have recently been informed of a possible work stoppage by our bus drivers.  Shaker Regional School District does not own the busses or pay the drivers.  We contract these services through the company, First Student.  Should a work stoppage take place, it will affect our ability to transport students to and from the schools and other activities.

Currently, First Student and the representatives for the First Student employees (Teamsters Local 633) are in a "cooling off" period.  It is my understanding that this "cooling off" period came after many months of negotiations which have to this point been unsuccessful.  Please note that during this period, no work stoppage will take place.  However, the "cooling off" period will come to an end sometime in the next few weeks.  We are hopeful that the two sides will be able to come to an amicable agreement prior to that time.

We will be sure to keep you informed as we learn more about the likelihood of a work stoppage occurring.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions regarding this matter.  I can be reached at mtursi@sau80.org or 603-267-9223.

Sincerely,

Michael J. Tursi
