BHS Attendance Update

Good morning BHS students and families!

We would like to provide a  gentle reminder and update to our morning attendance procedures.  Parents and guardians, please remember to call the office at 267-6525 before 7:25am if you know your son/daughter will be absent, tardy, or will need to be dismissed early on a given day.  If a student is absent and we have not received a call from a parent or guardian by 9am, we will notify you with an email that your son/daughter is not present at school.  If you would prefer that we call you directly, please let us know.  We are trying to streamline the daily attendance process in order to best utilize our staff's time - effectively and efficiently.

Additionally, please be aware of our new attendance policy in the handbook, as explained by Mr Finch in an earlier notice sent out:

As always, in order to maintain accurate student records, parents/guardians need to contact BHS if their student will not be in attendance on any day when school is in session. The most significant revision to the Student Handbook (page 9) in regards to attendance is a greater level of specificity in terms of how student attendance will be categorized (excused versus unexcused). This change was made in an effort to increase our procedural transparency as well as support our students and their families in ensuring that learners are in the classroom setting on as consistent a basis as possible. We will continue to work with families, to the best of our abilities, to address any student attendance concerns that may arise; please feel free to reach out regarding your student's ability to attend BHS and participate in that process! Please note that, as this year's handbook indicates, parents/guardians may call out a student (due to illness) - without medical documentation - three times per academic quarter. While your call will be received and recorded (and is appreciated) for any additional days of student illness/absence, missed school beyond the third (again, without medical documentation) would be considered unexcused. Additional information and details on this topic can be found on page nine of the Handbook!

As has always been the case at BHS, the most important component of attendance (both in terms of accurate record keeping and our support procedures) is communication. Therefore, please reach out in those cases when your student will not be with us for any reason - as well as if/when you have any questions!
