Athletic Eligibility Update

Dear Belmont Student & Families,

With Semester One completed, we are now going to be doing a grade check for all student athletes. The grade checks will be completed, and impacted students will be notified on Monday, February 3rd. These students' eligibility will be impacted for 2 weeks regardless of how quickly a student redeems eligibility status. That means a student who successfully recover the required credit(s) will be fully reinstated on 2/17/20.

The following levels detail the three sages of eligibility:

Level 1

This is for students who received one failing academic grade (passing the other three) and who have a failing Habits of Work score (an average of less than 2.5) in the course that academically stands below passing. A student on level 1 may practice with his or her team and attend meetings but is ineligible to participate in games during those two weeks. In order to become eligible, the student must recover the class to a 2.5 before the 2 weeks end, or he/she will be ineligible to participate in games for the remainder of the season.

Level 2

This is for students who failed two academic grades. He/She is removed from all athletics and extracurricular activities immediately, including practices. This ineligible status may be restored if the student recovers all courses in the two week recovery period. At that time, the student may return to practices, but his/her playing time will be at the discretion of the coach/advisor. In order to be eligible, students must recover all classes to a 2.5 before the 2 weeks end, or they will be ineligible for the remainder of the season.

Level 3

Students failing three or more courses (and/or who are passing zero or one course) are ineligible and cannot be restored to eligible status, as per NHIAA policy (New Hampshire's high school sports governing body).

Ineligibility Period Dates

Monday, February 3rd-Monday, February 17th

As always, we want to provide as many opportunities to our students for them to participate in athletics. However, we must remember that they are students first and athletes second. If you have any questions regarding this eligibility process please reach out to me.

Thank you,

Mr. Cayman Belyea

Athletic Director, Belmont High School
