Belmont High School - End of 2019-20 Semester One Dates and Details

Jan. 20, 2020

Good afternoon, Belmont High School Community (Students and Parents/Guardians)!

I hope that you are all enjoying this long weekend, the final break prior to the end of our first semester of the 2019-20 school year at BHS! I wanted to take a quick opportunity to communicate some of the important upcoming events/dates that impact our transition from current schedules to new courses; while most of this information has been shared previously in various communications, here is a single collection of what to be aware of for this week and next (in chronological order):

1. Final Days of S1 Precovery: 1/21/20 and 1/22/20, 2:45 to 4:15pm. Students who are participating in our after-school Precovery sessions have two more opportunities to interact with qualified teachers, receive additional instruction, and/or get answers to their clarifying questions before the end of the grading term. Our dedicated faculty and staff will, of course, work with students through these three days during scheduled class periods, and Targeted Learning Time also continues throughout the week during the school day(s)!

2. Final School Day of Semester One: 1/23/20. This Thursday is the final day of Semester One courses, so with a second-straight long weekend (for students) ahead, we will begin Semester Two at the outset of a new week!

3. Professional Development Day (no students): 1/24/20. Our professional staff will engage in various activities through the day on Friday, 1/24, reflecting on Semester One practices and preparing for new groups of learners Semester Two - and beyond!

4. Semester Two Courses Begin: 1/27/20. BHS students will begin their second semester courses next week, beginning on 1/27. Any schedule change requests should be coordinated through the school counseling department.

5. Semester One Grades Finalized and Available Through Empower: End of the School Day, 1/29/20. Our faculty and staff will be assessing student work, reflecting on collective bodies of evidence, scoring standards, and reaching final Semester One course outcomes by the end of the school day on 1/29/20. Please note that we will not be printing/mailing report cards as the Empower Parent Portal is now accessible (and detailed, step-by-step directions are available in video form on the Belmont High School Webpage under BHS CBE Resources). Should you require a hard copy of end-of-semester grades, please visit the BHS School Counseling Department, and one will be provided for you (on 1/30/20 or thereafter)!

Please feel free to contact the Belmont High School main office or counseling office with any questions regarding these plans and practices; should you have any course-specific questions, please contact the appropriate member of faculty!

Thank you for a great first semester - we look forward to another!
