FBLA is now collecting can tabs for David's House on an annual basis.  If you have some saved, please deliver them to BHS by March 25th.  They will be delivered to David's House that week.

 

FBLA is also supporting the Cause for PAWS in support of the Animal Rescue League of New Hampshire.  If you are willing and able to bring in any of these items (toys, treats, cat/dog food, litter, paper towels, glass cleaner) to support this effort, please bring them to the office by Friday, March 15th.  Thank you for your consideration! 


Athletics:

Spring Sports Sign ups:

Sign up sheets for spring sports are located on the gym doors until the end of the week.


Girls Softball:

 There will be a meeting on Friday at 3:00 PM  in the caf.

 

Outdoor Track and Field:

Meeting today @ 2:30PM in Rm. 114

 

Winter Sports Awards:

Will be held tonight @ 6:00PM in the gym.


Girls Lacrosse:

Open gym for all high school girls interested in playing lacrosse on Saturday , March 16th & 23rd at Belmont High School gym from 4:30-7:00 PM. Sticks and goggles are available for use.

 

Wave Swim Clinic:

This clinic is for swimmers who are looking to get a taste of what the swim team experience is like as well as experienced swimmers looking to get a jump on their summer training. The clinics run from April 9-May 9th , skipping vacation week. If you would like more info stop by the main office to pick up an informational sheet.

 

Leprechaun Leap:

 5K Fun Run/Walk sponsored by Town of Belmont Events being held on Sunday, March 17th @ 10:00AM- start location will be at the Belmont Mill. Course map and registration forms can be found at belmontnh.org or you can contact Tina Fleming @ 998-3525 with questions. Costumes are encouraged, but not required. See attached flyer and registration form.

 

Childfind Clinic:

Are you concerned about your child's development? Do you suspect that your child may have a disability ?

Shaker Regional School District will be holding a "Child Find Clinic" on Tues., March 19th at Canterbury Elementary School from 1:00-3:00PM for children age birth through 6 years old. Certified staff will screen students for possible learning disabilities, speech and language disabilities, motor skills, and overall development functioning. The clinic is open to any resident of Belmont or Canterbury, but APPOINTEMENTS ARE REQUIRED. Please contact the SAU office at 267-9222 for additional information or to make an appointment.

 

All students - NH JumpStart is sponsoring a Get10 Virtual Quest that requires you to go online and answer 10 multiple choice questions about personal finance.  The questions include links to web sites where the answers can be found, so it is not very difficult.  If you answer all 10 questions correctly, you will be entered to win ITunes gift cards and IPad Minis.  If you are interested, please see Mr. Hill to confirm you have the correct answers or check it out yourself at www.jumpstartget10.org.  Deadline to participate is April 19th.

 

Class Rings:

Sophomores who did not attend the meeting on Monday can pick up an order form in the main office if you are interested in ordering a class ring. Jostens will be back on Friday to pick up orders.

PTO:

BHS PTO will be holding its next meeting on Thursday, March 21st at 6:00 PM in the BHS Guidance office.  We welcome new and old friends!  It is a great way to get up to date on the happenings at BHS!  No ongoing commitment required.  Just come share in an evening with other teen parents! 

 

Also, the PTO has a drop box for printer cartridges in the front lobby!  We would very gratefully accept your cartridges and those from businesses you know too!  It is a great passive fundraiser that puts money directly into our school!!  Thanks so much!"


Guidance:

Attention Juniors and their parents: Greetings from Granite State College, Keene State College, Plymouth State University ,and  the University of New Hampshire. Students and their parents have been invited to attend an information session hosted by the senior admissions staff from each of the institutions. The program will include an overview of New Hampshire's University system, individual college information presentations, a general question-and-answer session, and time at the end of the program for students to speak individually with each college. Light refreshments will be served.The sessions will be held from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM on the following dates at the listed locations:

·         Durham, University of New Hampshire – Wednesday March 13

·         Plymouth, Plymouth State University – Tuesday, March 19

·         Manchester, Radisson Hotel – Wednesday, March 27

·         Nashua, Crowne Plaza Hotel – Monday, April 1

 The two pre-college paths to Army Officership are West Point and the Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC). If you'd like to get more information about becoming an Officer, you are cordially invited to attend an information session taking place in Concord, NH. The details are listed below. This event will be an excellent opportunity for you to gain valuable information to help you decide whether to include West Point or an ROTC program among the higher education options you will be considering. Reminder to seniors: Lakes Region Board of Realtors Scholarship applications are due in the guidance office no later than Friday, 3/15.  The Maurice Fortin   Memorial Fund application due in the guidance office no later than Friday, 4/5.  Lakes Region Scholarship and John Mullen Scholarship applications are due on Monday, 4/15. It is your responsibility to get your application package to Lakes Region Scholarship on time!! They do not give exceptions for late applications. 

 

LRCC is pleased to announce they will be continuing the Summer Scholars Program again this year. This highly successful program is supported through the generosity of LRGHealthcare, provides a FREE college Anatomy and Physiology I course to a select group of talented high school students interested in a career in the field of healthcare. This course will allow students to earn four college credits which are transferable to UNH, PSU, Keene and other state colleges and universities. Not only will students have the opportunity to experience course fundamentals to prepare them for many health careers, they will also be provided with information about the range of health careers open to them and the educational requirements of each. This course will be offered over a 6 week period from June 24 to July 30 on Mondays and Tuesdays from 9am to 2:55pm, with a break the week of July 1st. Interested students should pick up an application in guidance. Deadline to apply is April 5th. Interested students must have taken Algebra I and biology and successfully passed. 

 

The Sign Language Interpretation Program at the UNH-Manchester Campus would like to invite juniors and seniors to their Open House on Tuesday, March 26th at 3PM. Registration is required. Register online at www.manchester.unh.edu/sli, or email unhm.admissions@unh.eduor call the admissions office at 641-4150.  The Sign Language Interpretation Program at UNH is the first accredited interpreting program in the US, is one of only three bachelor's degree progams in New England and is one of only 13 accredited interpreting programs in the country. 

 

The Health Careers Institute at Dartmouth is offering a summer education program for students interested in entering a variety of health-oriented professions. The summer program is a week long intense, educational and fun filled week. There are several dates available in July and August for interested students. For more information and to apply go tohttp://tdi.dartmouth.edu/hcid. Applications are due April 1st and the cost for one week is$1,350.00, scholarships are available.

 

Are you a student in grades 9-11 who is interested in Science, Technology, Engineering, Math & Manufacturing? If so, the Huot Tech Center would like to invite you to a Career Panel Discussion with local professional in those fields. This field trip will take place on Friday, March 15th from 10:10-12:30. Please sign up in the guidance office if your are interested and pick up a permission slip to attend. Students will be taking a bus to Huot and it's FREE!!


Lakes Region Manufacturing Week, March 11-15

Belknap EDC welcomes the Lakes Region community to explore the world of advanced manufacturing during the first annual Lakes Region Manufacturing Week, March 11-15. The week features tours and open house events at eight manufacturing facilities throughout the region. In addition, Lakes Region Community College will host an information session for the community to learn more about their new advanced manufacturing certificate and degree programs. The Huot Technical Center's Manufacturing & Pre-Engineering Program will also host an open house for anyone interested in learning about their unique four-year high school program that prepares students for careers in high-tech fields.

Our next three meetings will be today , as well as March 20th & 27th   We need members to help over the next three weeks to complete the following:

 

1. Prepare for your SLC competitive events

2. Bring in one item to support Cause for PAWS (toys, treats, cat/dog food, litter, paper towels, glass cleaner)

3. Help with the scrapbook at meetings during the next three weeks

4. A small group to construct the Igniting Innovation piggy bank for Make-A-Wish

5. A small group to construct the Local Chapter Exhibit about BHS FBLA that ties in with the national Igniting Innovation theme. 

 

Please see Mr. Hill and commit to helping with at least one of these last three projects.  Thanks!

National Honor Society:

Mr. BHS:

 Come watch seniors Adam Prout, Austin Wilder, Jared Clough and Cole Padula as well as juniors, Joe Boles, Matt LeClaire and Elijah Gravenhorst try to win over the judges with their personality, talents, and dashing good looks as they compete in the Mr. BHS pageant, which will be held on Friday, March 15th  @ 6:00PM,  in the Belmont Middle School gym. Admission is $5 per students and $7 for adults. Kids (under 5 years old) and seniors (over 65 years old) are FREE!

 

Red Cross Blood Drive:  Any 16 year old interested in giving blood during our annual Red Cross Blood Drive must have a permission slip filled out ahead of time.  See Ms. Angwin in the Irish Alcove to obtain said document.

 

World Language Exchange Programs:

Spanish Club:

Travel for Teens is pleased to announce that a student at Belmont High School could win a totally free trip to Italy this summer in the 4th Annual International Friendship Contest! The winning student will travel, all expenses paid, on our Cinque Terre Community Service trip.
