Important: Food Pick-Up/Delivery - Change in Schedule

Hello Families,

Starting this week, we will be offering meal pick-up/delivery service on Mondays and Wednesdays only. This does not mean that you will receive fewer meals. This means that you will receive multiple days of food in one pick-up and/or delivery. The pick-up/delivery locations/times have not changed.

Summary:
Food Pick-Up for All Students: BHS and CES, 8 AM - 11 AM, Monday and Wednesday only.
Food Delivery for All Students: Locations and times remain the same.  Delivery is on Monday and Wednesday only.

Please know that our goal is to minimize exposure to staff, families, and students while still providing the same number of meals to our students.

Thank you.
Michael

Update: School Closure Extended Through May 4th

Hello Families and Staff,

Governor Sununu announced today that school closures are extended through May 4th as well as a stay-at-home order starting tomorrow at 11:59 PM. According to the Governor, the stay-at-home order does not restrict people from leaving the house to perform their "essential functions"; going to the grocery store, pharmacy, gas station, hardware store, etc. He also mentioned that this does not restrict "essential personnel" from performing their "essential duties." It is my understanding that educators and food service workers are considered "essential personnel" who perform "essential duties".

What does this mean for our school district?
1. We will continue developing remote learning plans and providing remote learning resources through May 4th.
2. We will continue our meal pick-up/delivery service through May 4th.

Please continue to check your email for updates as we navigate through this situation together.

Thank you.
Michael

Update: Social Distancing, Food, Internet Access, Illness, Extended Closure

Good Evening Families,

I hope all of you are doing well. Please see the following updates:

Important: Social Distancing:
Although we do not have a "shelter-in-place" order from Governor Sununu, we all need to do our part to stop the spread of this virus. We are now learning that our younger population is vulnerable too, after seeing new cases in children and young adults. As testing becomes more readily available, the number of confirmed cases will increase dramatically throughout our state and local community. We will see a significant spike in confirmed cases in the next couple of weeks. In order to help ourselves and our community, we need to practice social distancing. This has been a challenge for parents, including myself, who are trying to explain to our kids that they should not be getting together with their friends. Social distancing means that families should be keeping to their homes as much as possible. Kids should not be bouncing between friends' houses. Kids should not be coordinating events with a group of friends like playing basketball, hanging out in the neighborhood or other areas. If you need to get together with anyone, avoid groups, stay at least six feet apart, and preferably be outdoors. All of us will have to use FaceTime, Skype, Google Hangouts or other means for communicating and staying in touch with friends and loved ones... at least for now.

Food:
Pick-up and delivery of meals will continue. Please refer to the email I sent out last Friday with the subject line "Food Pick-Up/Delivery Information". In order to minimize exposure to our staff, families, and students, we are planning to reduce the number of days for pick-up and delivery. This does not mean that you will receive fewer meals. This means that you will receive multiple days of food in one pick-up and/or delivery. I will keep you posted with any schedule changes in a separate email.

Internet Access:
In addition to the information sent out in previous updates, Verizon and AT&T are offering the following:

Verizon:  Will waive overage charges and late fees to support customers who may be financially affected by the COVID-19 crisis  Announces two months waived internet and voice service charges for current Lifeline customers and new internet option for low-income households  Adds 15GB of high speed data for wireless consumer and small business customers to be automatically applied with no customer action necessary  Verizon provides first responders with priority and preemption abilities for voice and data  Consumer and small business Fios and DSL broadband internet plans have no data caps.

AT&T: AT&T has lifted all data caps for a 60 day period from March 13th. They are considering going further. The customer does have to affirmatively call 611 and ask for the data cap to be lifted for it to take effect.

Other Internet Service Supports: Click on this link Internet Support

Illness:

Students and staff will likely require time to recover from illnesses as well as potential COVID-19 related issues. Counseling, Nursing, and Administrative staff will work with parents, guardians, and students to help resolve any issues or provide any assistance we can. Teachers will be flexible with their response to students encountering such issues. We ask in the strongest terms that you communicate health issues to school administrators and/or school nurses as soon as possible so we may provide appropriate support.

Extended Closure:

Currently we are closed through April 3rd. However, both the Commissioner of Education and the Governor have publicly stated that there is a strong potential that this closure will extend well past April 3rd. The Governor is going to "re-evaluate" the extended closure on the day of or prior to April 3rd. I will keep you posted immediately with any updates.

I want to reiterate my sincere appreciation to all of you for all of your efforts. Please contact me with any questions or concerns. I will respond to you in a timely manner.

Update: Food, Remote Learning Plans, Internet Service, Communication, Buildings and Offices

Good afternoon Families,

I hope all of the updates over the past several days have been helpful. Please know that I will continue to keep you updated throughout the next couple of weeks.

Food:
Please see the email I sent out earlier with the subject line "Food Pick-Up/Delivery Information".

Remote Learning Plans:
Plans were sent out yesterday via email from the building principals.

Internet Service:
In addition to the information already sent in previous updates, we received the following from Atlantic Broadband. This is for Belmont residents.

Atlantic Broadband Internet Assist: Atlantic Broadband has introduced "Atlantic Broadband Internet Assist" for a limited time for residents in need in its service areas who do not presently have internet with Atlantic Broadband. The new 15 x 1 Mbps service, normally priced at $9.99 per month plus taxes, will be offered free for 60 days. New Atlantic Broadband Internet Assist customers also will receive free installation and a free modem with the service.

Communication:
Our main method of communication will continue to be through email. Please continue to check your email. I will use our SchoolMessenger call/text system when necessary. You can also get updates by following us on social media: Facebook (facebook.com/ShakerRegionalSD), Twitter (@ShakerRegional) and Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/shakerregionalsd/).

In hopes of structuring our email communications, you can expect the following:

District-wide information will come from me.
School-wide information will come from the building principal.
Grade-level information will come from a lead teacher.
Specific classroom, course, and student support service information will come from your student's teacher, case manager, school counselor or other related service providers.

Buildings and Offices:
All school buildings and offices, including the SAU, will be closed to all students, staff (except for our food service staff and custodians), and the general public starting at 4 PM today. There will be no one available to answer the phones; however, you can call and leave a voicemail if necessary. Office staff will be monitoring voicemails and directing them to the appropriate contact between 8am and 3pm Monday through Friday.

I want to thank all of you for your support of the district, for all of your efforts with your own families and for your efforts supporting your neighbors. We are very fortunate to live and work in this great community. We will get through this together!

Food Pick-Up/Delivery Information

Hello Families,

Food pick-up for all students, with locations at BHS and CES from 8 AM - 11 AM, will continue throughout the extended closure. In addition to the pick-up option, we will begin utilizing our buses for daily food deliveries starting Monday, March 23rd.  6 buses will be delivering throughout Belmont and 2 buses will be delivering throughout Canterbury. Attached are documents outlining the locations and delivery times for each bus stop. Our goal is to have locations that are conveniently located to the majority of student addresses in that area. Buses will be at each location for a minimum of 15 minutes before they move on to the next stop. You will be asked your student's name so we can keep track of the number of meals we need to prepare. As a reminder, food is available to all students and your meal accounts will not be charged. If you have any questions, Nancy Cate, our Director of Food Service, is your main contact (ncate@sau80.org or 267-6525 ext.1352).

In summary:
Food Pick-Up for All Students: BHS and CES, 8 AM - 11 AM, Monday-Friday
Food Delivery for All Students: Please see the attached documents for locations and times. Delivery is Monday-Friday.

Thank you in advance for your patience. The delivery system will be new for all of us.

Important - Belmont High School's Remote Learning Plans

Good afternoon Belmont High School Community!

It is often in the most trying of times that a community comes to realize just how resilient and united it is. Over these past days and weeks, the professionals of BHS have demonstrated immeasurable strength and dedication in the face of challenges that have called them to reimagine our approach to meeting students' needs. While I'm sure there was no doubt in your mind previously (there was certainly none in mine), the focus and considerate responses of these individuals have shown that they will go to incredible lengths to serve and care for the students of Belmont and Canterbury, whom we miss already.

In the attachments below, you will find the detailed Remote Learning Plan for Belmont High School, as well as a map that outlines where students may access WiFi services on our SRSD campuses.

Feel free to contact me or other members of our staff (via email) should you have questions, comments, or concerns through this time. We are happy to be a resource for you in any way(s) we can; after all, the Shaker Regional School District is a family, and we are sure to come together through these events and emerge stronger than ever before!

All the best to you and yours!

Resource Gathering and Collection at Belmont High School

Good afternoon, Belmont High School Students and Parents/Guardians,

As I'm sure you would expect, our faculty and staff has been diligently working to prepare remote learning opportunities for our students. The Shaker Regional School District, in compliance with Governor Sununu's directive, is closed to students; this means that all learning that takes place prior to our reopening of schools will occur from home and/or other environments. We have a truly talented and dedicated group of professionals who will execute this style of learning while remaining actively engaged in the development of our community's young people.

A great deal of additional communication will take place as we move forward, but we wanted to point out some specifics/developments regarding the latter portions of this week when students are to gather supplies and/or class-specific resources.

Classroom Resource Pick-Up Details:
Each teacher will be emailing his/her classes by the end of the day tomorrow (Wednesday, 3/18) to let students/parents know whether or not there will be resources for pick-up Thursday and/or Friday (please see a reminder of the daily pick up schedule below). If not, this means that the teacher's plans allow for a fully-digital (online) experience in which students receive instruction, have opportunities to communicate with their teachers, and are assessed without being required to have hard copies of work/resources in front of them. Please know that for classes that do have required hard copies/resources, as we continue to limit access to our building - and the in-person interactions of members of our community - most collected items will be found in the lobby of BHS. Our effort will be to collect and gather books, work, supplies, etc. in a locale that does not require individuals to travel throughout the building more than is absolutely necessary.

Lockers Emptied of All Items:
If your Belmont High School student has left any items in his/her locker(s), many of those items have also been brought into the foyer area where they should be picked up during the designated resource pick up times. If additional items are still in your student's locker, you should ask him/her for the locker number and its combination so you can retrieve those items while at BHS. All items need to be out of Belmont High School lockers and brought home prior to the end of the designated pick up times on FridayThis requirement is due to our custodial crew's plan to deeply clean every surface in the building, including inside lockers

Designated Pick-Up Appointments, by Student's Last Name:
Thursday:
  • A-E: 8-10am
  • F-J: 10am-12pm
  • K-O: 12-2pm
  • P-T: 2-4pm
  • U-Z: 4-6pm
Friday:
  • K-O: 8-10am
  • U-Z: 10-12am
  • P-T: 12pm-2pm
  • F-J: 2-4pm
  • A-E: 4-6pm
Our plans for moving forward through this time will be sent later this week; please check for forthcoming emails often!

Also, keep in mind that our food drive-thru service, which provides both breakfast and lunch for our students, continues tomorrow at Belmont High School! As Superintendent Tursi recently communicated, "a food pick-up service [is available] at Belmont High School and Canterbury Elementary School...at 8 AM through 11 AM. This is a drive-thru service that will be available to all students. Drive-thru routes will be indicated by signs at each school. We will be providing a bagged breakfast and lunch at pick-up. You will be asked your student's name so we can keep track of the number of meals we need to prepare daily. Students' meal accounts will not be charged. We are providing free breakfast and lunch to all students. [For] the future, we are working on plans for delivering food to students utilizing our buses and bus stops. [Mr. Tursi] will keep you posted on future plans prior to the end of this week."

Thank you - and we wish all the best to you and your family!

Rumors

Good Afternoon,
There are rumors floating around our community regarding the Coronavirus, specifically about staff, students, and/or community members. This is inevitable due to the circumstances. Please know that there are no confirmed cases or presumptive positive cases in our community.  Please rely on the information that comes from the District. If you have a concern or have a question about something you might have heard, please contact me or your building principal.
Thank you.
