Athletics

All winter athletes should report to the gym at the beginning of power hour TODAY

 

All those interested in playing baseball, there will be a meeting next Thursday, 3/12 at 2:35.

 

Prom
There will be a prom committee meeting today March 5 at 10:20

 

Guidance:

1. Laconia Adult Education is offering an SAT Prep Class starting on Wednesday, March 11th from 6-9pm for 7 weeks. The cost of the class with the book is $95. Please call the Laconia Adult Education office at 524-5712 with questions or to enroll.


2. Parents and students who are interested in learning more about the HUOT Tech Center at Laconia High School should plan on attending their Open House on Tuesday, March 24th from 3-6pm.  Great opportunity to tour the facility!

 

Reminder to students with ETS applications that those applications are due back in the guidance office Friday 3/6!!

 

Junior girls who are interested in Granite Girls State program, a youth citizenship program specifically for juniors should see Mrs. O'Connell in guidance for an application. This program will run at St. Anselm College during the dates of June 28-July 3, 2015. The selection process includes girls who have completed their junior year of high school, interested in government and current events, have strong leadership abilities, and have an above average scholastic standing.


Upcoming School-to-Career opportunities with Mrs. Burke:

1. CAREER Power Hour – D.O.T. Day!  On March 12th at 10:20am in Guidance, we will have the following Dept. of Transportation professionals on-site to talk to you about their careers:  
* Civil Engineer from the Bridge Design Bureau

* Heavy Equipment Mechanic

* Welder from the Mechanical Services Department

* Human Resource Representative (Business Administration)

2.  STEM Technology Day at UNH on March 16th - Explore careers in STEM,

Operate a VEX Robot, Write apps for Android devices, Create a computer program,

Explore the UNH Human Computer Interaction Lab, and MORE.  This trip has NO Cost

and LUNCH is included! ***Waiting List only at this point*** Permission slips are

due by March 12th!

3.  Girls Technology Day at NHTI on March 18th **For Females in 9th & 10th grade*** - Some workshops include: 3-D Modeling, Building Mobile Apps, Cisco VoIP demo, Cyber Security, Greenfoot Game Programming, Kodu Game Lab, Making Ethernet Cables, VEX Robotics, and Inventing Apps for Android Phones.  This trip has NO Cost and LUNCH is included!  Permission slips are due by March 12th!

4.  CAREER Power Hour – SOCIAL WORKER on March 30th at 10:20am in Guidance. 

If you are interested in the Human Service field, helping others, counseling, etc. this will be a great opportunity for you!  Sign up in Guidance for the catered lunch!


PROM:

Prom will be held on Saturday, 5/16 from 6-11pm at Gunstock.  Tickets ($50 per person) will go on sale next week and be available during Power Hour.  If you are at the Huot during Power Hour, please see Ms. Haubrich for ticket purchases. Checks can be made payable to BHS.  More details will be available as the date gets closer.

 

Drama Club

We're off to see the Wizard! Come join the BHS Drama Club for the spring musical in the Belmont Middle School gymnasium. Show times are: Friday, March 13th @ 7:00 p.m., Saturday the 14th at 2:00 and 7:00 p.m., and Sunday the 15th at 2:00 p.m.  General admission is $10.00, students and senior citizens $7.00. Refreshments will be sold- proceeds benefit the BHS Drama program.


Financial Literacy

The NH Jump$tart Coalition, a statewide nonprofit organization dedicated to youth financial literacy, is calling all Granite State teenagers in 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th grade to complete The Get 10 Virtual Quest. The online scavenger hunt tests students' consumer savvy by asking them to answer ten financial questions. Clues are provided for every question!

 

From the correct entries, ten (10) students will be randomly-selected to win $50 Amazon gift cards and one (1) lucky winner and his /her teachers will each win a $150 Amazon gift card! "This program helps NH Jump$tart Coalition achieve three critical goals - provides financial education to students, supports teachers with curriculum and connects families to experts in their own communities," according to Dan Hebert, President of the NH Jump$tart Coalition.

 

THE DEADLINE IS APRIL 15, 2015! DON'T MISS THIS OPPORTUNITY.
