Updated Belmont High School Remote Learning Plan

4/3/20

Good afternoon Belmont High School Students, Guardians, Faculty, and Staff!

As our period of Remote Learning has been extended through at least May 4, 2020, and in consideration of the efforts and feedback representing each school community stakeholder group, please find our school's amended Remote Learning Plan attached to this email.

While a number of aspects of Remote Learning will remain the same, you will find that there have been both alterations and additions to some other areas; those areas are highlighted to ensure that you can easily review those aspects of our approach.

Some of the specific changes and updates include:

  • The addition of - and a schedule for - "Flex Day", an approach to meeting the diverse needs of our school community and to allowing all individuals to successfully adjust and adhere to our Remote Learning academic expectations.

  • Guidelines for teachers' instructional planning, which communicates that our professionals will aim to reasonably manage the amount of time high school students are expected to commit to their academic work (45-60 minutes per day, per class, between direct instruction and independent practice/assessment).

  • Minor adjustments to the 8am - 3pm (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday) school day that we have utilized thus far; essentially, the changes you will find are in the establishment of more specific times when each course/block is the primary area of focus for students, faculty, and staff.

  • A note about Progress Reports (which are to be available online on 4/15/20) and academic eligibility (for Spring athletic and extracurricular participation).

We will continue to come together and adapt as we progress into the coming weeks. Our ability to do so is truly a testament to the talent, commitment, and dedication of every member of the Shaker Regional Team!

Please do not hesitate to email us with any questions, concerns, or insights you may have - regarding this Remote Learning Plan or otherwise!

Thank you - and our best to you and your family!

Mr. Matthew Finch

Principal, Belmont High School
