Belmont High School - 5/15/20 Community Updates

5/15/20

Hello Belmont High School Students and Families!

Due to our ever-evolving circumstances, coordinating the final stages of this school year requires an extensive amount of coordination and communication, even more so than in years past. We have received tremendously positive feedback regarding our efforts to update and engage students, families, and community in our remote learning programming. Know that this is a genuine honor and pleasure as it allows us to remain in communication with the community and students for whom we care so greatly!

We hope that you are able to enjoy some of the weekend's promised sunshine, safely in the company of your family. As ever, the faculty and staff of BHS are here to support your needs to the best of our abilities! If there's an email to send to a teacher, a question that's gone unasked, or an assignment to put the finishing touches on, there's no time like the present; remember that today (5/15) marks:

  • Only two remaining weeks for senior classes!

  • Only three remaining weeks for underclassman courses!

Academic and Instructional Planning: No New Work in the Final Week of Courses

Please know that the plan for Belmont High School teachers/courses is for no new information or new assignments (other than those meant to serve as recovery or supplemental materials) to be presented to students during the final week of classes (5/26 - 5/29 for seniors; 6/1 - 6/5 for underclassmen). Please note: this expectation does not necessarily apply to/in classes that fall under programmatic guidelines outside those fully under BHS control (such as Running Start, Huot, and/or AP courses).

During the last week of a course, the teacher will ask students to engage in final presentations of learning and previously-assigned work may be due; the focus will be on providing students final/culminating opportunities to demonstrate levels of proficiency in course standards. Please contact teachers directly with any questions regarding what will be expected in those final days of individual courses.

Chromebooks/School Material Returns

In the coming days/weeks, we will establish and communicate our end of year plans for such tasks as returning school materials to BHS. While our approach to do so is still in the planning stage, we anticipate that seniors' Chromebooks and all students' classroom materials will be due to return to BHS on 6/10 and 6/11. We will follow a similar schedule as when students picked up class materials at the onset of remote learning; more to come!

Class of 2020-Specific Items

Senior Class Meeting

The BHS Graduation Committee is excited to announce that there will be a remote senior class meeting this coming Tuesday, 5/19 at 7pm to again discuss end of year planning. An invitation will be sent on Monday to the Class of 2020 and their families; be on the lookout for that notice, and we hope to see everyone there to hear about the newest developments!

Class of 2020 - Notice on Signs at Belmont Public Library!

Thank you to the families and community partners responsible for the amazing signs currently displayed at the Belmont Public Library! In the words of the organizers, "thanks to amazing community support, posters with portraits of the members of the Class of 2020 have been created to be displayed around the Belmont Public Library for viewing for about a week. They may then be used by the school and can be taken home by the students at the end of the school year. Please take time to walk around the library over the next week to enjoy these posters.  #belmontstrong."

Senior Deliveries by Ms. Pridham and Mrs. Conway

Our incredible front office staff has been coordinating and executing efforts to deliver expressions of recognition and appreciation for our seniors. Speaking of recognition and appreciation, it's clear that these two building professionals deserve a great deal of BOTH! Thank you!

Our Upcoming Week at BHS

Another week of the previously-communicated "new-normal" BHS Remote Learning Schedule commences on Monday. Communicate with your teachers, participate in instruction and assessment opportunities, and let our team know how we can best support you! Take full advantage of all that remote learning has to offer!

Reminders from Past Week(s)

  • Some Important Dates

    • 5/29/20 - Last scheduled day for Senior Classes

      • Credit recovery will begin the following week

    • 6/5/20 - Last scheduled day for Underclassmen

    • 6/8/20 - 6/12/20 - Teacher Workshop Days and may include credit recovery programming

  • Credit Recovery Planning

    • As information from Governor Sununu and the NHDOE continues to evolve, so too do our plans for post-semester credit recovery, Extended School Year, and Summer School. Due to our circumstances, and as we are sure you understand, these offerings will likely look different than what BHS has offered in the past; however, we plan to provide opportunities for our students to demonstrate continuation of their learning and progress toward proficiency! At this moment, we anticipate that much - or all - of credit recovery programming will be done through remote learning methods.

Our district and towns continue to demonstrate unparalleled strength and resilience. Remember that we are all in this together, and it is through unity and collaboration that we are able to reach positive outcomes for each individual and our community as a whole. Maintain that Shaker Regional Pride!

All the best to you and yours, and…GO BHS!

Mr. Matthew Finch

Principal, Belmont High School
