Belmont High School - 5/1/20 Student and Community Update!

5/1/20

Hello Belmont High School Students and Families!

It's been another great week for our Belmont High School community! We hope that our students and their families were able to enjoy the extended weekend (this past Monday and Tuesday) and enjoy the sunshine that seems to be in the cards for us all this weekend!

We hear and empathize with your desire for definitive answers regarding how we can/will approach our end-of-year events (like graduation and credit recovery/summer school), and updates and information are sure to follow. Please know that we are hard at work creating drafts of what these may look like, understanding the ever-present chance that we may have to revise our approaches as the guidance and instructions we are provided by the NHDOE, and the current health crisis, evolve.

For now, please allow the following to serve as some insight into what has been and what is yet to come!

(Remote) Senior Class (and Guardians) Meetings

This coming Wednesday, 5/6/20, we will hold a remote class meeting for our seniors, the Class of 2020, and their guardians! This is being held to update you on our progress regarding end-of-year events (such as graduation) and gather the questions that you have! We will also hold follow-up meetings (one specifically for students and another for their guardians/families) to provide as many answers and additional information as we can after the initial (May 6, 7pm) meeting! We will send out invitations to these events early next week.

Collective meeting and discussion: Wednesday, 5/6, 7pm

Student follow-up: Thursday, 5/7, 2pm

Parents/Guardians follow-up: Thursday, 5/7, 7pm

Appreciation Week

We would truly like to highlight the efforts of our faculty and support staff as we recognize Teacher Appreciation Week, May 4 - May 8! BHS's successful transition to remote learning has demonstrated how passionate, resilient, and talented our faculty and staff truly are. We invite you to think of those individuals who represent what the Shaker community means to you, someone (or many) who stands out as having made a special impact on your time with us -  reach out to her/him! Great teachers do not work with students to be recognized as great; they do so to help you reach greatness. Our teachers and support staff are dedicated to the goal of discovering who our learners can be.

Thank you to every member of our team, each of whom embodies what it truly means to be an educator

SRSD Parade

Thank you to everyone who attended this past Wednesday's SRSD parade! What an amazing celebration of the strength of our community! Speaking on behalf of the high school's professionals, your signs, waves, cheers, and smiles were tremendously energizing. We hope that it had the same effect for you as well! In addition to representatives from our local emergency services and libraries, 149 Shaker Regional vehicles participated, including many members of BHS's faculty and support staff. Twice, once in Belmont and another instance in Canterbury, parts of our "parade train" found ourselves a bit off-route; we're sorry if we didn't all make it past your location, but know that we miss our special interactions with you, whether you were able to attend/view the event or not! Want a quick glimpse of the fun? Visit the Facebook home of the Shaker Regional School District!

Building Resilience

The National Association of School Psychologists has distributed a short video for families who are looking to help students build resilience skills during what is clearly a stressful time. We invite you to watch the following, if you feel it applies to you: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pz7bCHIT7xg&feature=youtu.be

Progress Reports Available!

Students' Semester-Two (Quarter 3) progress reports are now available in Empower! Step-by-step support videos on how to maneuver through Empower and access the information you are seeking are on our website and can be found at: https://bhs.sau80.org/b_h_s_c_b_e_resources!

Our Upcoming Week at BHS

We are returning to a week of "our new normal" on Monday. Communicate with your teachers, participate in instruction and assessment opportunities, and let our team know how we can best support you! The end of the school year is fast-approaching, so be sure to take full advantage of all that BHS's approach to remote learning has to offer!

Reminders of Important Dates

  • 5/29/20 - last scheduled day for Senior Classes

  • 6/5/20 - last scheduled day for Underclassmen

Thank you for your continued support and collaboration! All the best to you and yours, and… GO BHS!

Mr. Matthew Finch
