Belmont High School - Student and Family Update, 5/8/20!

5/8/20

Hello Belmont High School Students and Families!

The weather forecast for this weekend surely doesn't look as promising as last Friday's, but we hope that you have some comforting and enriching plans for your coming days; for those of you who celebrate the holiday, Happy Mother's Day on Sunday...and let that note serve as a last minute reminder to any of you who haven't yet gotten around to planning or purchasing a gift/gesture of appreciation…!

It is amazing to look at our revised school calendar and recognize just how little time there is left in the 2019-20 school year. There is no time like the present to regroup, check in with teachers to ensure that you are making adequate progress toward proficiency in your course standards, and set yourself up for success in the final stretch of the year. To put it in real-terms perspective, today (5/8) marks:

  • Only three remaining weeks for senior classes!

  • Only four remaining weeks for underclassman courses!

Here are some updates and reminders of great things to come!

Class of 2020 - "Signs" of Recognition!

As we continue our work to organize end of year recognition events for the Class of 2020, this coming Wednesday, 5/13, please feel free to drive by and take some pictures of our display of personalized yard signs (thanks again to Class of 2020 member Alexa Rolfe for designing these for us) and Class of 2020 banner! The signs/banner will be displayed together throughout the day on 5/13 (we'll be arranging them around 8am), and seniors may come to the school and pick up their personalized signs between 2 and 3pm. Our hope is that these will be brought home and displayed on lawns to let everyone who passes your residence know that you're a member of this special class! We also hope this serves as an opportunity for us to take some pictures of/with our seniors to publish in a slides gallery! Social/Physical Distancing mandates and expectations will be adhered to during your visit/pick up!

National (Virtual) Recognition of the Class of 2020!

Did you know that a nation-wide celebration and recognition of the Class of 2020 will be broadcast on 5/16/20? Graduate Together: America Honors the Class of 2020 "will air simultaneously across ABC, CBS, FOX, and NBC, as well as a broad alliance of social media and streaming platforms...so get ready to go big while you're at home—because this one-hour primetime national graduation celebration is all about YOU."

  • Here's an article that discusses the event and lists the many performers and special guests!

  • Here's the central website where you can find additional details - and even submit your own story, photos, and uplifting messages for the nation's Class of '20!

Parade Video Link

We'd like to again thank everyone who was able to attend the SRSD Parade (4/29/20)! You can see a video of just some of the special moments our day here: Shaker Regional School District Parade

Credit Recovery Planning

As information from Governor Sununu and the NHDOE continues to evolve, so too do our plans for post-semester credit recovery, Extended School Year, and Summer School. Due to our circumstances, and as we are sure you understand, these offerings will likely look different than what BHS has offered in the past; however, we plan to provide opportunities for our students to demonstrate continuation of their learning and progress toward proficiency! At this moment, we anticipate that much - or all - of credit recovery programming will be done through remote learning methods.

Our Upcoming Week at BHS

We will begin another week of the previously-communicated "new-normal" BHS Remote Learning Schedule on Monday. Communicate with your teachers, participate in instruction and assessment opportunities, and let our team know how we can best support you! As I previously mentioned, the end of the school year is fast-approaching, so take full advantage of all that BHS's approach to remote learning has to offer!

Reminders from Past Week(s):

  • Building Resilience

The National Association of School Psychologists has distributed a short video for families who are looking to help students build resilience skills during what is clearly a stressful time. We invite you to watch the following video, if you feel it applies to you.

  • Progress Reports Available!

Students' Semester-Two (Quarter 3) progress reports are now available in Empower! Step-by-step support videos on how to maneuver through Empower and access the information you are seeking are on our website.

  • Reminders of Important Dates

    • 5/29/20 - Last scheduled day for Senior Classes

      • Credit recovery will begin the following week

    • 6/5/20 - Last scheduled day for Underclassmen

    • 6/8/20 - 6/12/20 - Teacher Workshop Days and may include credit recovery programming

Next week, I hope to provide additional developments regarding end-of-year celebrations/recognitions, information regarding what will be expected of students in the late stages of this semester, and ongoing planning for closing out 2019-20 and preparing for 2020-21!

I hope that this update finds you well, energized, and prepared for our school community's great moments to come! All the best to you and yours, and… GO BHS!
